Protecting Your Skin from the aftermaths of wearing the Mask

Nowadays wearing a mask has been essential and obligatory. Due to the spread of the pandemic COVID-19 and its severity all over the world, it made it mandatory for everyone, from young to adult ones, to wear a mask in public settings to slow down the spread of the pandemic. However, wearing a mask for such a long time can affect your skin, causing irritation, acne, and other problems.

Face mask can accumulate moisture around your skin as it provides an occlusive atmosphere. Wearing a mask, only for short period, will not cause any visible harm but if you wear it for hours, then it can lead to acne, breakout, and irritation on the chin, cheeks and nasal bridge, etc. It will also worsen the already present acne and breakouts.

How to take care of your skin while wearing a mask, this question must pop up in everyone’s mind. Here are a few tips that will help you to take care of your skin while wearing a mask.

Cleansing more often
For any skincare routine, cleansing is an important part but if you are wearing a face mask, make cleansing your habit. Mask can create sweat and moisture on your skin surface leading to sebum production that means that those with acne are more vulnerable to acne and breakouts. After taking off the mask, make sure to wash your hands and face. Due to the pandemic, we are washing our hands more frequently. We need to take care of our faces as well by improving our cleansing routine. Try using a cleanser that helps in removing sweat, dirt, and other impurities from your face.

Hydrate your skin
As we are washing the face more frequently, hydration becomes a crucial issue in this regard. As you wear a face mask, it may cause redness and irritation around your face. Use petroleum jelly to avoid irritation. Skin treatments and serum can help a lot. Try to add a night serum to your routine that can help to get rid of the stressors. So, provide your skin with more moisture than ever to avoid irritation and other skin issues.

Sun-protection
You might think that covering your face with a mask is enough to avoid the UV radiation of the sun but it is not true. Do not give up on your sunscreen routine. It is not clear that how much your sun’s radiations reach your skin, and using no sunscreen can on exposed parts of your face might get affected.

Protecting Your Skin

Forego excessive makeup
Some products related to makeup can clog/ obstruct pores and irritate if the mask rubs even slightly. If you keep using a mask for a long time, your makeup can smudge. So, focus on your eyes and avoid using excessive foundation. Go with sunscreen and simple eye makeup.

Reapply cleansing and moisturizing
If you are wearing a mask, cleansing and moisturizing for once a day are not enough. Try to cleanse and moisturize your face before and after wearing a mask. Apply your moisturizers more than once if needed.
