Have you ever wondered how essential facials are for your skin? This question is not easy to answer. So let’s start with the basics: Your skin needs sun protection, moisture, facial cleansing, and regular peelings.
If you also want to do something good for her, repairing ingredients such as antioxidants and peptides can counteract premature skin aging. And then there are treatments I like to call add-ons—these fun things: masks, facial massages, and putting cucumber slices on your eyes. Assessing which category facials fall into is not easy.
How often should I have a facial?
There’s no hard and fast rule regarding how often you should have a facial. This is because there are so many different types. If you have an acne facial that uses light therapy or a, cleanse, you should stick with it. I recommend at least six to eight-week cycles. Even if your facial treatment is more about getting an even complexion, your facials should be regular.
Especially with scars, pigment spots, or melasma, the skin usually needs several sessions before the results are visible. A fruit acid peel is a good idea here. Cell division is stimulated, which makes the skin look soft, even, and fresh. But microdermabrasion is also suitable for the treatment of pigment disorders and scars.
The top layer of the skin is removed mechanically. You can imagine the procedure a bit like using a sandblaster: Small crystals are blasted onto the skin, which is then sucked off again with a vacuum. The first appointments should take place weekly, after which you should discuss the frequency with the beautician or doctor treating you.
Types of facial treatments
In addition, there are other facials. The range of facial treatments offered by beauty salons and beauty clinics is relatively large. Everyone names their facial differently, and there are different price ranges. It’s not easy to keep track of things. A variety of facial treatments can be broken down into two categories.
Cleansing and refinement of the complexion
On the one hand, some facials are intended to achieve particular effects and results. For cleansing, these are the traditional facial treatments, cleansing, which helps against blackheads and milia, but also treatments with an LED mask, i.e., the light therapy mentioned before.
These two treatments are intended to provide relief for impure skin. If it is more a matter of achieving a more even complexion, various peelings with acid, such as fruit acid peeling and microdermabrasion, can help. There are also oxygen facials, in which active ingredients are brought into the deeper layers of the skin with the help of oxygen. The additional charge of O2 is intended to ensure a fresh, youthful appearance.
You should avoid active ingredients in your daily care for a while, such as retinol or various acids, as they irritate the skin too much. Nevertheless, it would help if you continue your skin care, i.e., daily cleansing and moisturizing, of course.
Facial treatments at the spa
But there is another facial, and that is the relaxing one. These are preferably offered in spas, and often it is more about the sensual experience and the time that you consciously take for yourself than about a specific effect on your skin.
Of course, masks are applied, but theoretically, unlike the ones above, you could do this facial at home because no equipment is involved. There is a wide variety of ingredients here, from special procedures with natural cosmetics to anti-aging facials to moisture treatments; everything is there.
They don’t have the most significant visible effect on the skin. But if a mask is applied to the skin with a facial massage, it can be very relaxing and good for the skin. Anything that gets you to lie still in a beautiful setting for 40 minutes and relax is a little beauty treatment. But let’s face it, a mud mask is a mud mask no matter where it’s applied.
How much do facials cost?
It is impossible to say how much a facial treatment costs. There are too many providers and types of offers for that. Regarding price, relaxation facials are generally lower than cosmetic treatments because they do not include devices or new technologies.
However, it would help if you did not fall for bargain offers, especially with intensive facials such as acid peelings. Professional treatment from specialists is much better for your skin than a sloppy session with unskilled helpers. So think about the results you are hoping for beforehand and get advice. Then nothing stands in the way of a pleasant, practical, and relaxing facial!
